Before You Accept a Home Battery Quote in Queensland, Check These 7 Things

A home battery quote can be full of numbers and product names while leaving out the answer you actually need: will this setup suit my home, and what will I pay for the finished job?

Before you sign, work through these seven points. Keep the answers with your written quote.

1. Why this battery size?

Ask how the installer chose the battery’s usable capacity. The answer should relate to your solar generation, evening electricity use and what you want the system to do.

A bigger battery is not automatically a better buy. If your solar system rarely produces enough spare power to fill it, ask what benefit the extra capacity is expected to deliver.

2. Can your existing inverter stay?

If you already have solar panels, give the installer your inverter’s brand and model. Ask whether it can remain, whether a separate battery inverter is needed, or whether replacement is included in the quote.

If replacement is proposed, ask why. It can make a substantial difference to the total cost.

3. Will it work during a blackout?

Don’t assume that owning a battery means your home will have power when the grid goes down.

If backup matters, ask which circuits will keep running, what can run at the same time and whether the required backup equipment and wiring are included in the price. Get the answer in writing.

4. What work is included?

Look beyond the battery itself. Does the quote include installation, switchboard work, changes to your solar system, the network connection process and any work needed at the proposed battery location?

Ask what could change after an on-site assessment. You want to know where the quoted price ends and possible extras begin.

5. How is the government discount shown?

For an eligible installation, ask to see the price before the discount, the discount amount and the final price you will pay. Check whether it is taken off upfront or provided after installation.

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program changed on 1 May 2026. If your installation is scheduled well after the quote was prepared, ask the installer to confirm that the quoted discount and final price will still apply.

6. What is the savings estimate based on?

If the quote promises bill savings or a payback period, ask to see the assumptions. How much power does it expect your home to use at night? What electricity price and solar feed-in tariff has it used?

An estimate based on your household is more useful than a general claim about what batteries can save. If your grid usage is already low, this question matters even more.

Is a battery worth it for a low-usage home?

7. Who installs it, and who helps afterwards?

Get the name of the business doing the work. Ask who will handle a problem with the installation, a product fault or a warranty claim. Check what handover documents and instructions you’ll receive.

Take your time with the decision. Queensland’s battery buyers guide recommends comparing quotes for systems that meet your needs, including their prices, models and warranties.
